Former Susquehanna University men’s basketball standout Bryan Majors ’10 is continuing to make his mark in the world of basketball several years after he took the court for the last time.
Majors has been an elite skills basketball trainer for the last five years, recently relocating to Charlotte, N.C., to expand his company, Major Preparation.
Majors is the CEO of Major Prep Skills Academy, which offers life skill enhancement, training in motivational speaking and basketball skill development. Majors has been an extremely engaged community activist in the Harrisburg area, where he is from, teaching youth life skills that will help them turn their goals into realities. He works with a wide variety of student and professional athletes, and has a variety of high-profile clients, including Chris Franklin (Harlem Globetrotters), Gilbert Brown, Jerry Johnson, Dustin Salisberry, (Oversea Pro Players) and Lamar Patterson (Atlanta Hawks).
“You have to put in ‘major work for major results,’” he said, citing his company’s motto, which his based on lessons he learned from his father about being prepared for life’s opportunities and challenges.
“Major Preparation is about going hard when no one is watching, not just for the season but the whole year,” he said. “Some people say they want to do something in the future or ‘when I grow up,’ but they’re not working toward it daily. If you want to accomplish something, you need to be preparing for it every day.”
At Susquehanna, Majors was one of the top point guards the basketball program has produced, earning the starting point guard position as a freshman. Majors set a program record in career steals (251). He remains second all-time in assists with (487). He graduated from Susquehanna in 2010 as the first African-American with a degree in elementary education and earned a master’s degree in public administration from the Pennsylvania State University in 2012.
“I don’t tell people ‘major work equals major results’ without properly preparing myself,” he said. “As a proud and recent graduate of Susquehanna, with a master’s degree and my own business, I’m reaping the results of all the hard work I’ve put in. Now I just want to continue to be successful and set an example, not just for youth, but for anyone trying to find their right path.”
